MAWAB, COMPOSTELA VALLEY PROVINCE – An armed encounter and an IED attack between soldiers of 10th Infantry Division and the NPA in two separate incidents in Compostela Valley Province on Monday, January 16, 2016 resulted to one dead NPA left behind by his comrades and five soldiers slightly wounded.
In the first incident, soldiers of 66th Infantry Battalion clashed with a group of NPAs belonging to Guerilla Front 25 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) at Sitio Mainit, Pagsabangan, New Bataan, Compostela Valley Province around 10 o’clock morning. After an hour and a half of armed encounter, the NPAs fled leaving one of their dead comrades, one IED, one portable generator, subversive documents and several personal belongings. No soldier was hurt in the incident.
The body of the still unidentified dead NPA was brought by the soldiers to Alar Funeral Homes, Compostela town for proper and decent burial.
In the second incident, a platoon of soldiers from 46th Infantry Battalion while travelling on foot was attacked with an IED at Sitio Lugpaton, Brgy Kingking, Pantukan, Compostela Valley Province around 1 o’clock afternoon. Five soldiers were slightly wounded and were identified as Sgt Fernandez, Cpl de Asis, PfcSilagan, Pfc Sagario and Pfc Dublas while the NPA immediately fled the scene.
MGen Rafael Valencia, commander of 10th Infantry Division, lauded the gallantry of the soldiers but expressed his sorrow on the death of the NPA, a fellow Filipino. “The 10ID expresses it condolences and sympathy on the bereaved family of the killed NPA and would like to urge other active NPAs to abandon the armed struggle,” added MGen Valencia.
