NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – The AFP’s Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) under Lt. Gen. Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero in coordination with PIA Region XI opened a three-day Peace Communication Workshop attended by more or less 50 participants from the Phil. Army; PNP; and Navy officers from February 24 to 26, 2016 held at TESDA Function Hall, Buhisan, Davao City to enhance its information dissemination on peace and development efforts.
The said participants are Civil Military Operations (CMO) officers of different Brigades and Battalions including chiefs of Division Public Affairs Offices from 4th and 10th Infantry Division, Philippine Army; and Public Affairs Officers from Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao and PNP counterparts.
Several resource speakers from PIA Regions XI; and XIII (CARAGA) provided lectures and exercises during the workshop. Likewise, some guest speakers from the media and higher headquarters provided similar inputs.
PIA Regional Director XI Efren Elbanbuena said that the workshop will enhance the communication skills most especially in timely reporting on significant events of CMO officers within Eastern Mindanao area.
Lt. Gen. Guerrero expressed his gratitude to PIA for helping EastMinCom in the area of peace communications. He also urged the participants to make the most out of the learning from the workshop. “Our pursuit of peace and stability in our country is a continuing effort. Our press releases end up undisclosed to the public because they are often late. When issues against us are published in daily newspapers, it often takes days for us to respond. This then, leaves the media with no other recourse but to find data from other sources. Bottom line: Timelines”. Lt. Gen. Guerrero said
