17th and 18th Returnee, Guerrilla Couple Surrenders to Government Troops

MALITA, Davao del Sur – A barangay official assisted the surrender of a guerrilla couple to government troops Sunday, March 5, 2016.

Lt. Col. Ronnie Babac, Commanding Officer of 73rd Infantry Battalion, identified the barangay official as Barangay Captain Isabelo Masiwel of Pangaleon, Malita, Davao del Sur.

Masiwel assisted Alias Janjan and Alias Jacky in their surrender to 73rd IB based in Brgy Felis, Malita. Janjan was a team leader and Jacky was a medic of the communist rebels operating in the provinces of Davao del Sur and Sarangani.

“They are the fourth (4th) set of guerrilla couple surrendered to 73rd IB since my stint as commanding officer and the 17th and 18th surrenderees this year,” Lt. Col. Babac said.

“The record of 59 returnees last year and 18 as of this month, this year, busts the myth and propaganda of the communist rebel leaders that once you surrender to government troops, you will be tortured or executed. Thus, I urge the active members of the communist rebels to go back to the folds of the law and live in peace together with their families,” Lt. Col. Babac added.
