ASUNCION, davao del Norte- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XI together with the local government of Kapalong, Davao del Norte and the 60th Infantry Battalion distributed 80 heads of cows and carabaos to 80 indigenous people (IP) beneficiaries of Brgy. Suaon, Kapalong, Davao del Norte on March 17, 2016.
A total of 258 IPs will benefit from the said program. The initial 80 beneficiaries who are members of Manobo tribe is the first batch to receive the livestock.
Troops of 60IB assisted DSWD XI headed by Ms. Rebecca Sta Maria, Assistant Regional Director in the peaceful distribution of the said IP livelihood starter kits. Mayor Edgardo Timbol and Datu Arturo Davao, the IP Mandatory Representative (IPMR) of Kapalong attended the said activity.
In his message, Mayor Timbol said, "We are very thankful for the aid of DSWD to our constituents. We therefore assure them that we will properly monitor the progress of this program to ensure its sustainability." Datu Davao expressed his sincerest gratitude for the assistance given by the local government and the military to his fellow Manobos.
Lt. Col. Emmanuel Canilla, 60IB commander in his remarks said, "The assistance is the government's response to the Need Assessment Survey and participatory livelihood assessment of our army troops immersed in the barangay to address the pressing concern on poverty."
