CAMP Osito D. Bahian, Malaybalay City – Another member of New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to the operating elements of Charlie Company, 58th Infantry Battalion stationed at Brgy Umagos, Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental yesterday afternoon, February 04, 2016.
Rodie Jhon Carlo Cañeos Y Balangiao aka Maxx, 20 years old, a member of Squad 2, Samahang Platoon Pangpropaganda 2 (SPP2) “Pelot”, Guerilla Front Committee (GFC) 4B bring along with him an AK47 Rifle with Serial Number: 10312 with two magazines and sixty rounds of ammunitions.
Cañeos was immediately brought to 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion Headquarters at Sito Migbanday, Brgy Poblacion, Claveria, Misamis Oriental for further debriefing. He (Cañeos) claimed that hardship in the mountains, empty promises with growing concern for the safety and welfare of his family has finally made him decide to abandon the armed struggle.
“We are expecting more NPA members to surrender due to increasing frustration and ongoing conflict in their organization. Concerted efforts of our stakeholders facilitated the surrender of Rodie Jhon Carlo Cañeos”, said Colonel Jesse Alvarez, Commander of the 403rd Infantry (Peacemaker) Brigade.
