Surigao del Sur declared as Conflict Manageable & Ready for Further Dev’t

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – Surigao del Sur was declared as Conflict Manageable and Ready for Further Development (CMRFD) province after signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) held at the Grand Ballroom of the Villa Maria Luisa Hotel, Tandag City on March 8, 2016. Signatories of the said MOA are Surigao del Sur Governor Johnny Pimentel; PNP Provincial Director P/Senior Supt. Romaldo Bayting and 402nd Infantry Brigade Commander Col. Isidro Purisima.
Eastern Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero; 4th Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Oscar Lactao and PNP Regional Director XIII P/Chief Supt. Rolando Felix served as the witnesses of the ceremony. Provincial Vice-Governor Manual Alameda Sr; Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Henrich Pimentel; and DILG Provincial Director Pedrito Alacaba also joined the event.


Gov. Pimentel in his message made an appeal to the Armed Forces of the Philippines for non-stop security operations against the CPP/NPA before the audience comprised of various sectors including NPA returnees. “I appeal to the military that they will not stop to continue their operations until the insurgents will be crushed. Today, we make another milestone with our effort to promote stability in the peace and order situation of the province. This is only the first step. Our long awaited dream which we want to realize, is to become an insurgency-free province. Let us join hands; let us go together, the government side, the private sector and the military to attain this objective”, Gov. Pimentel said


AFP Chief of Staff Hernando DCA Iriberri who was represented by Lt. Gen. Guerrero said in his keynote speech that the ceremonial declaration of the province as CMRFD is a fitting tribute to what the joint efforts of committed stakeholders can do for peace and progress.


Lt. Gen. Guerrero expressed his gratitude to the Surigaonon for reaching a significant milestone in the history of the province. “Allow me to thank and congratulate Gov. Johnny Pimentel for this opportunity and the people of Surigao del Sur. Just like the governor, I appeal and enjoined everyone to continue to work harder and collaborate even stronger for us not only to be able to sustain the gains that we have achieved so far, but also to prosecute our ideas, our vision of having Surigao del Sur as an insurgency-free province”, Lt. Gen. Guerrero said


During the press briefing, Maj. Gen. Lactao said that most provinces of CARAGA region (Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Sur) had already been declared as CMRFD provinces while Agusan del Norte and Butuan City is set to be accorded of the same status before end of March 2016.
