MONKAYO, Compostela Valley Province - Another milestone in the history of Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province (CVP) unfolds as the Municipality was declared as Conflict-Manageable and Development-Ready on April 13, 2016.
A ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was held at the Municipal Hall of Monkayo, CVP between the Municipal Government of Monkayo represented by its Municipal Mayor Hon. Joselito B. Brillantes and the Philippine Army represented by 25th Infantry Battalion (25IB) Commander Lt. Col Ismael P. The 25th IB handed-over the Internal Security Effort in Monkayo to the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) for the local Government to take the lead role in the attainment of the goals and objectives embodied in the Internal Peace and Security Plan.
The Municipal Government of Monkayo and 25IB both agreed that the intent of the hand-over is to build confidence among the people and different stakeholders in order to create an environment that is conducive to socio-economic, cultural and spiritual development.
The MOU established the fact that the MPOC and the security sector recognized the need to protect the gains of the Internal Security Operations and prevent the resurgence of communist terrorist influence in the said municipality.
This also signifies the willingness and commitment of the MPOC to take the lead and make a stand in ensuring that Monkayo attains its potential to the fullest for the sake of the future generation. This was the result of the continuous consultation and coordination between the AFP and the Municipal Government of Monkayo.
For so long Monkayo, suffered the stigma brought about by the perception that it is infested with Communist Terrorists or CPP/NPA. That perception ended yesterday.
The representatives of the people of Monkayo made a stand for their children and their children’s sake.
Lt. Col. Mandanas said that this milestone will be etched in the history of Monkayo and the Province of CVP as well. “This event will be remembered by the local folks as this will bring about the peace they have longed-for” Lt. Col. Mandanas said
