ELEMENTS of Philippine Army recovered high powered firearms in an encounter with a Private Armed Group (PAG) believed to be under certain a Mayor Sangki the other day in Ampatuan, Maguindanao.
This was confirmed by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)-Public Affairs Office (PAO) chief Lt. Col. Edgard Arevalo.
Arevalo said elements of 601st Infantry Brigade under Colonel Cirilito E. Sobejana Jr. encountered the group at around 5 p.m. at Barangay Saniang, Ampatuan, Maguindanao.
The encounter resulted in the recovery of high-powered firearms including one M60 machine gun; one M203; five M14 rifles; and more than 4600 rounds of ammunition including 15 rounds of 81mm mortar, three rounds of 60mm mortar, and 14 rounds 40mm grenades, 3 rounds of rifle grenade, 8 rounds of ammunition for 12” gauge shotgun, improvised 4-cap automatic grenade launcher, and a commercial handheld radio.
Arevalo said the discovery and confiscation of this large cache of arms and ammunition and a big number of explosives and ordnance that may be converted to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) is an enormous accomplishment.
AFP Chief of Staff General Ricardo Visaya commended the men and women of the Western and Eastern Mindanao Command for doing a good job for “the multi-dimensional role of the AFP and the multi-faceted challenges that the two commands face in their areas of operation which do not stop us from delivering results in the name of peace and security.”
