EASTMINCOM Activates Counter-Terrorism Joint Task Force

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – The Eastern Mindanao Command formally activated the Joint Task Force Haribon through a military ceremony on October 22, 2016 at the Naval Station Felix Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City.

Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio graced the occasion together with other peace and security stakeholders.

The Joint Task Force Haribon was activated amidst the changing security landscape in Davao City with the emergence of the place as the alternate seat of the government and venue for international events.

JTF Haribon will be under the operational control of Eastmincom so air, land and sea capabilities of the AFP will now be integrated to enhance the security of Davao City and its immediate peripheries (to include sea lanes) from terrorism and other threats.

Furthermore, the Joint Task Force will be tasked to secure not only Mega Davao but will also assist the Presidential Security Group in securing the President and other very important personalities (VIPs).

JTF Haribon will have an expanded role and coverage as it will now control Task Force Davao and Task Group Samal as its land component, while Task Force 71 (to include the Naval Special Operations Unit) from the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao will comprise the JTF’s naval component.

Additionally, elements from the Tactical Operations Group XI and the Special Operations Wing from the Philippine Air Force will comprise its air component.

Brigadier General Ronnie S Evangelista, a seasoned combat officer and skilled in counter-terrorism as the former Commander of the Special Forces Regiment, will be heading Joint Task Force Haribon as its Commander.
