In a press statement released by the police regional headquarters stated that on Monday at 10:00 a.m. a ceremonial change of command was conducted at Camp Vicente L. Pimentel, Sr. based in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur. The activity was officiated by Major General Benjamin R. Madrigal, Jr.; commander of the 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division, where Col. Isidro L. Purisima, the outgoing commander of the said Army Brigade turned over mantle of leadership to its incoming chief Col. Franco Nemesio M. Gacal.
The Monday activity was witnessed by Caraga PNP chief Chief Supt. Rolando B. Felix, Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Romaldo G. Bayting, Surigao del Sur Governor Vicente Pimentel, Jr. and Tandag City Mayor Alex Pimentel.
Purisima held the said post for a year and eight months. Now he is transferred to the Army’s national headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo preparatory for a possible promotion to a higher office.
Gacal, was a member of the “PMA Class ‘88” and formerly held the position as the chief of staff of the Philippine Army Commanding General of the Philippine Army Headquarters at Fort Bonifacio.
In a local radio interview, Purisima said that among his achievements during his stint of office was the improved security situation of his area of responsibility, the declaration of Surigao del Sur as a “Conflict Manageable and Ready for Further Development,” and the downtrend of insurgency-related violent incidents of the areas under his charge, which he said became the “lowest” in Caraga region and even in eastern Mindanao.
He hoped that these can be maintained, much more now that a ceasefire is in effect between the GRP and the CPP-NPA-NDF.(PNA) RMA/NBN/EBP
