CSAFP visits EMC, lauds effort against NPA



NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Eduardo M. Año lauded the Eastern Mindanao Command for its accomplishments and programs in protecting the communities from NPA atrocities during his visit at the Naval Station Felix Apolinario in Panacan, Davao City last August 5, 2017.

General Año was accompanied by the Commanding General of the Philippine Army and was received by EMC Commander, Lt. General Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero.

During his visit, General Año was briefed on the accomplishments, programs, concerns and the plans that the Command intends to do in the next six months.

The Command presented its accomplishments in early August, after its units foiled possible NPA attacks relative to their plan of conducting atrocities nationwide.

For the month of August, six encounters transpired in EMC’s area of responsibility that led to the recovery of 24 high powered firearms, 26 Improvised Explosive Devices, the death of an NPA member and arrest of four others and the surrender of two other reds to the government.

The skirmishes had resulted into five casualties from the government’s side composed of three Police Officers and two soldiers who were wounded in the incident that came after troops received reports from barangay folks about the presence of armed men in their respective communities.

Since the suspension of Peace talks on February 4, 2017 to August 5, 2017, a total of 167 High-Powered Firearms, 56 Low-Powered Firearms and 157 Improvised Explosive Devices were recovered and captured.

Another 53 NPA members were also killed during the seven-month skirmishes, while 22 were arrested, 32 captured and 226 surrendered.

In an ambush interview, General Año called on the NPAs to surrender and avail the program being offered by the government.
