Army Officer offered life in pursuit of peace in Paquibato

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - An encounter between the troops of 16th Infantry Battalion (IB) and a group of NPA terrorists erupted at So. Quimbao, Brgy. Mapula, Paquibato, District, Davao City on January 25, 2018, at about 4 PM that cost the life of a young Army Officer.

Accordingly, a Platoon of Bravo company led by 1Lt. Jarren Relota while responding to an information on the presence of NPA in the aforementioned area was fired upon by an undetermined number of NPA Terrorists.

During the exchange of fire and maneuver, the terrorists detonated an improvised landmine wounding two soldiers while killing Lt. Relota.

The Commander of Joint Task Force Haribon MGen. Noel Clement expressed his grief at the death of the officer and vowed to continue to pursue the peace in the area, and prevent such incident that will add misery to the communities.

"We grieve for the death of Lt. Relota. However, we salute his display of the finest tradition of soldiery and gallantry in pursuing peace and protecting the people of Paquibato. We hope that by his sacrifice, we will bring peace in the area," he added.

1LT JARREN JAY C RELOTA 0-17288 is a 27-year-old native of San Jose, Antique. He was the Commanding Officer of Bravo Company, 16IB, 2ID, PA since June 1, 2017.

He was commissioned into the regular force after finishing the Officer Candidate Course of the Officer Candidate School in May 2013.

Being the only son of Joel and Celine Relota, the brave officer is also a graduate of BS Criminology at the University of Antique on April 1, 2011, and a Licensed Criminologist.
