EMC Supports 1st Mindanao IP Leaders' Summit

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - A two-day Indigenous Peoples (IP) Leaders Summit was conducted in Davao City last January 31 to February 1, 2018, to discuss and resolve issues confronting the IP.

The IP Leaders Summit, which aimed to "provide the IPs with an avenue to air their concerns with National Government Agencies (NGAs), has drawn an estimated one thousand IP/Lumad leaders from all over eastern Mindanao

During the first day at Green Heights Convention Center in Buhangin, Davao City Tribal Leaders discussed issues in their different communities prior to their meeting with representatives of NGAs last February 1, 2018, at Naval Station Felix Apolinario, Panacan Davao City.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte also met and talked with the IP Leaders during the summit's culmination in the afternoon of February 1 in the same venue.

The IP Leaders Summit was the first in the country under the Duterte administration. Likewise, it was also the first time Pres. Duterte met with the Lumad leaders of Eastern Mindanao in a group and the first time in the Republic's history that a sitting President came to directly meet and talk with a multitude of Lumad leaders.
