IP Community disarm NPA Terrorists


Asuncion, DDN - Members of the IP Community in So. Mangkay, Brgy Gupitan, Kapalong, Davao Del Norte disarmed four members of the NPA Terrorist that entered their community late afternoon of March 9, 2018.

Accordingly, the community was fed upon the deception and coercion being made to the members that prompted them to disarm them.

Overwhelmed by the unity of the community led by their tribal leaders, the NPAs identified as Renard Catarata alias SM / TATA / ARIEL also known as the Commander of the NPA thereat, a certain alias YUMI, alias KID and a certain ALEX were disarmed.

The fed-up IPs recovered five (5) HPFAs (1-M4 with SN: 413706, 1-M653 with SN: 146893, 3-M16 with SN: 522868, 197321, 214232) after the NPAs fled towards different directions.

The community assisted by their tribal leaders turned over the firearms to Sgt Henry Himtog of Kapatagan Detachment at Sitio Kapatagan, Brgy Gupitan, Kapalong, Davao del Norte. on the evening of March 10, 2018, together with 17 members of the Militiang Bayan and one NPA member identified as alias Don.

During the interview, the surrenderors were encouraged to surrender because of President Duterte’s pronouncements to give P20, 000 for every slain NPA Terrorists.

Lt. Col. Gilbert Ombos, Commander of 60th Infantry Battalion express his appreciation on the effort of the community to stop violence and coercion against their members. He further reiterates the willingness of the unit to assist the NPAs who are willing to return to the folds of the law.

" We appreciate the effort of the community, this should drive a message to the NPAs that they are not welcome in the communities, we want to reiterate that rebels who willfully return to the folds of the law shall be given assistance and help will be made available to those who would surrender, but for those who will insist to continue using violence to instil fear to the community cannot forever ran away from the long arm of the law" Ltc. Ombos said.
