NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – The Special Assistant to the President, Lawrence Christopher "Bong" Go led welcoming of the 31 Filipino repatriates from Indonesia last April 20, 2018, here.
Together with Bong Go are the different Regional Directors of Government agencies in Region XI headed by Director Ma. Lourdes Lim of NEDA and Personnel from Sarangani Province LGU.
LtGen, Benjamin Madrigal, the Commander of Eastern Mindanao Command, in coordination with the Department of Foreign Affairs, initiated the repatriation after his attendance in the opening of Republic of the Philippine- Republic of Indonesia (RPRI) Coordinated Patrol in Manado, Indonesia received the repatriates from Commodore Antonio Toribio, Skipper of the BFAR ship.
The repatriates have undergone quarantine prior to their disembarkation from BFAR Ship Lapu Lapu. They were also processed by the Bureau of Immigration for their travel papers.
Accordingly, most of the fishermen were caught in Indonesia due to illegal fishing, overstaying, and illegal entry
From Indonesia, they were boarded via Philippine Navy Ship "Davao Del Sur" las April 13, 2018 and were transferred to BFAR Ship along Sarangani Bay to bring them to Davao City last April 18, 2018. They arrived at Naval Station Felix Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City.
Meanwhile, with the participation of the Government Agencies, assistance like Cash, Food packs, and Farm inputs was also given to them. In the meantime, they were already handed over to the DSWD for their return to their respective communities and to be provided with other assistance.
