Minor female NPA figured in Laak encounter surrendered

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - A 16-year-old female NPA yielded to government troops after an encounter in Laak, Compostela Valley Province on April 30, 2018.

Accordingly, the surrender came after a team implementing a Community Support Program while conducting Public Information and “pulong-pulong” in Barangay Sonlon, Assuncion, Davao Del Norte was approached by a concerned citizen informing them of the intention of an individual to surrender.

The surrenderor identified only as Kara (name withheld) revealed that she is part of the group and was involved in series of encounters in Sitio Lower Dalimdim, Brgy. Naga, Laak, Compostela Valley, along Sitio Rizal, Camadi District, and Sonlon, Asuncion, all of Davao del Norte in the afternoon of April 29, 2018.

The revelation of the minor resulted in the recovery of her AK 47 rifle which she accordingly hid near the first encounter site in Laak, Compostela Valley.

At present, the 60th Infantry Battalion is closely coordinating with the Municipal Social Welfare Office of Assuncion and the Philippine National Police in the area for the custody and proper intervention to the surrendered minor, in accordance to the protocol and standards of handling children in armed conflict.

It can be recalled that the series of encounters resulted to the death of one soldier identified as Private First Class Armand Sunga Campos, while four AK47, one Grenade Launcher, one M653, one M14 and four M16 rifles were recovered. Further, one unexploded Improvised Explosive Device (IED) belonging to the NPA terrorist was recovered by the government troops.
