CGMTYS, Mawab, CVP - The troops of 3rd Infantry Battalion (IB) under 10th Infantry Division, while conducting Focused Military Operations (FMO) on September 16, 2018, encountered more or less 25 members of CPP-NPA Terrorists at the vicinity of Barangay Baracatan, Toril District, Davao City.

Lieutenant Colonel Oca Partuza, Commanding Officer of 3IB, said that the encounter transpired after they received a report from a concerned citizen about the presence of the NPA terrorists who were conducting extortion and recruitment activities at the said Barangay.

The firefight lasted for about 30 minutes, allowing the troops to overrun and occupied the enemy position and leaving alias Ivy dead.

Accordingly, Viva Albert Abenua alias Ivy is a resident of Ilang-ilang, San Mariano, Agusan del Sur and the leader of Pulang Bagani Command operating in the hinterlands of Davao City.

From the encounter site, the troops were also able to recover one (1) M16 Rifle; one (1) AK47 rifle; four (4) unit of detonator switch; five (5) magazines of AK47; two (2) magazines of M16 short full loaded; one (1) magazine of M16 long full loaded; medicines and medical equipment; assorted IDs; and other subversive documents.

On the other hand, the 3IB coordinated with the PNP and brought the dead body of the NPA terrorist to a funeral home.

“As peace advocates, we are encouraging the NPAs to stop their armed struggle. Also, we are willing to accept their surrender with their firearms laid down. NPAs are given a chance to return to the folds of the law, be with their families, live a normal life and avail of the Government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP),” LTC Partuza said.

Meanwhile, Major General Noel S Clement, Commander 10th Infantry Division lauded troops’ accomplishment.

“I commend the troops for their untiring commitment to duty in bringing peace in our area of responsibility and weakening enemy’s will to fight. The CNTs’ leadership is collapsing through the death of alias Ivy, Commanding officer of Pulang Bagani Company 3. His subordinates no longer care for him upon his death,” he said.

“With the people’s support, let us continue to be steadfast in protecting the people and their communities. Likewise, the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division is thankful to the residents of Baracatan, Toril district for their unwavering support to our soldiers. Through our collaborative efforts, we are certain of a community that is free from CNTs’ influence,” MGen Clement added.
