Eastmincom visits ADDU to strengthen collaboration

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – In the midst of security challenge in Mindanao, Major General Felimon T. Santos Jr. AFP, Commander of Eastern Mindanao Command (EMC) paid a visit to one of the Command’s stakeholders in the Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) on Thursday, January 31, 2019, as part of his initiative to continue forging a strong partnership in maintaining the peace and security in his area of responsibility.

The Ateneo de Davao University serves as one of the watchdogs of the Command in the implementation of peace and security effort and the implementation of Martial Law in Eastern Mindanao.

During the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao on May 23, 2017, the ADDU, through its Law School and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Davao Chapter reviewed and made some inputs in the Rules of Engagement (ROL) of EMC troops in the implementation of Martial Law.

The premier university likewise consistently hosts peace forum which usually benefits the implementation of peace and security program and made it more scientific, and culture, conflict, and gender sensitive.

Aside from being a partner in peace and security, ADDU plays an important role in the mental health program not only to the Command but also the whole Armed Forces of the Philippines. The institution played a major role in the mental health care of soldiers who were deployed in Marawi City during the crisis particularly those units that came from Eastern Mindanao.

During the visit, MGen. Santos was received by Father Joel Tabora, the President of ADDU, Most Rev. Fernando Capalla, and other faculty members of the university.
