Message of Major General Felimon T. Santos Jr., EMC Commander, during the Flag Raising Ceremony of Davao City

(At the outset, allow me to express my heartfelt gratitude to the City Council of Davao, most especially to our Honorable Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, for extending her invitation to the Eastern Mindanao Command in line with the conduct of this event.)

My appreciation also goes to all the elective City Officials, Government and Non-Government Agencies/Organizations present here today, and to all city government employees.

My fellow public servants, daghan kaayong salamat sa pag welcome sa akoa dinhi sa dakbayan isip bagong Commander sa Eastern Mindanao Command (thank so much for welcoming me in this City as the new Command of Eastern Mindanao Command). I am glad and honored to join you today as we welcome the week and go back to work on our usual undertaking as public servants.

Assuming the post of commander Eastmincom takes me to a very challenging helm considering that Davao city has become the alternate seat of government and an emerging center for development and progress. Situated in a very unique area of responsibility, Davao Region continues to grow well in all aspects because of the sustained unity and outstanding convergence of efforts between and among the leaders and its people.

As the Commander of Eastmincom, I am certain that my predecessors have established the groundwork and very well prepared the unit for me considering that I will be working in an environment where people and institutions are marked by their willingness and ability to work with one another and share a common purpose for the common good. I am glad to be given the opportunity to work alongside some of the very best leaders and officers of the region. And so I believed that we would be able to forge our way forward towards the accomplishment of our missions, sustain the gains, and win the lasting peace here in Eastern Mindanao.

In light of this, I therefore affirm my commitment to support the priority thrusts of the president for the attainment of peace and development across our area of responsibility, especially here in Davao City. Team Eastmincom will continue to be a reliable and committed partner of the City Government of Davao in the fulfillment of the national priority agenda, which includes suppressing and preventing crimes, proliferation of illegal drugs, terror attacks and other similar acts of violence by lawless elements and organized crime groups, through a strategy that focuses on good governance; collaboration with stakeholders; territorial defense, stability, and security; as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster response. We shall do this through a strategy of convergence and collaboration of all peace stakeholders and partners in a people-centered, community-based, and multi-stakeholder approach.

Ours is a duty unique and invaluable and it is with your trust in us that we continue to be your best soldiers, airmen, sailors, and marines. We have been made better by your trust and confidence in our service. We will do our best to ensure that terrorism will have no place in Davao Region. We ask your vigilance and involvement together. We can beat terrorism.

We have much to learn from each other and much more work to do. So, as we start another working week, let us renew our eagerness to becoming effective enablers of peace and progress not just here in Davao city but also across the communities in Mindanao.

Let us keep the Bayanihan soaring! I wish everyone happy and successful days ahead!

Mabuhay ug maayong buntag sa atong tanan!
