Phil-Indo start 2019 Border Coordinated Patrol

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - The Border Coordinated Patrol between the Republic of the Philippines and Republic of Indonesia formally opened today, May 2, 2019, at Pinnacle Hotel, Davao City.

The activity was graced by Commodore Ramil Roberto Enriquez, Vice Chairman, Republic Of the Philippines Border Committee and the concurrent, Commander of Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao; and First Admiral Jonias Mozes Sipasulta, Vice Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Border Committee and attended by the participating navy units and members of the border committees from both countries.

The coordinated patrol will be executed in four instances for this year. The main mission is to secure the common border, to curtail maritime crimes, and stop various sea crimes like smuggling and piracy.

Aside from its security purpose, the patrol will likewise provide the naval forces of both countries an opportunity to improve their interoperability and capability in furtherance of a safe and secure common border, through a naval exercise simulating different scenarios.

Philippines will be deploying the high endurance cutter BRP Ramon Alcaraz while the Republic of Indonesia deployed their KRI PANDRONG.

The Indonesian vessel and her crew were welcomed by her Philippine counterpart after she made a port call on May 1, 2019, at Sasa, Warf, Davao City.

After the tabletop exercise and goodwill games on May 3, 2019, the exercise at sea and sea patrol will commence with a send-off ceremony at 9 o'clock in the morning on May 4, 2019, at Sasa Wharf, Davao City.

Meanwhile, Lt. General Felimon T. Santos Jr, Commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command and the concurrent Chairman of the Republic of the Philippines Border Committee welcomes the activity as an avenue to strengthen border security cooperation.

"We are grateful with the continuing support of the Republic of Indonesia on the continuing support on the conduct of the coordinated patrol as this provide both countries with an avenue to strengthen the bilateral relations and explore new border security cooperations," Lt Gen. Santos said.
