MAKILALA, Cotabato - Troops from the 39th Infantry Battalion under 1002nd Infantry Brigade encountered more or less 20 members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) at Sitio Garok, Brgy. Sibulan, Sta Cruz, Davao del Sur on September 13, 2020, at 03:30 in the afternoon.
Accordingly, the troops were fired upon by the CTG while responding to the information report from concerned citizens that the terrorists are extorting the populace.
The encounter resulted in the death of two (2) Communist NPA Terrorists (CNT) and the recovery of two (2) M16A Riffle, two (2) improvised explosive devices, and subversive documents in the CTG's hastily abandoned hideouts.

No civilian was hurt or displaced during the incident which transpired in a very remote and forested part of the said barangay.
”The Battalion appreciates the unending support of the community in tipping-off the presence of the CTGs. This is a clear indication that people are now denouncing the CTGs, aware of their deceptions, and are tired of giving on to their extortion demands. I also extend my condolences to the bereaved family of the killed communist terrorists and I urge the remaining members of the communist terrorist group to surrender to the government,” said Lt. Col. Geoffrey M. Carandang, Commanding Officer of 39th Infantry Battalion.
