Army facilitates IP Marriage



MARAMAG, Bukidnon
- Seven happy Indigenous Peoples (IP) couples proclaimed their marriage vows through a Tribal Wedding at Headquarters 88th Infantry Battalion last September 28, 2020, as part of its 3rd Anniversary celebration.

The said Tribal Wedding was solemnized by Datu Julito Penaso and was witnessed by the couples' relatives, friends and other distinguished visitors such as Vice Mayor Hon. Edison Laure, Municipal IPMR Diosdado Seberia both from Maramag, Bukidnon.

The couples were composed of Former Rebels (FRs) and personnel of 88IB who are members of Manobo and Matigsalug Tribes in Bukidnon.


Alias Esterlita, a former rebel, uttered, “ako Nagpasalamat ug dako nga naapil mi sa gikasal grabe ka memorable para sa akoa ug sa akong paris isip usa sa mga FR ug unique pajud kayo naka tribal attire. Nagpasalamat jud me ug dako sa naningkmaot sa pag prepara hilabina sa mga army ug uban pa aron matuman ning kasalan."

(I am Thankful that we are among those who got married and lucky to wear a tribal dress. It was indeed very memorable for former rebel to experience this. We are very grateful for the efforts of those who prepared especially the army and everybody who made it possible in amidst COVID-19 pandemic.)


Datu Penaso, sharing his thoughts said, “ako nalipay nga naimbitahan aron mo solemnized ug kasal tungud niini nahatagan ako ug higayun nga maipadayag diha sa 88IB ang kultura ug tradition, Spiritual ug Customary laws sa tribo. Nalipay ko nga gi supporthan jud sila ug ayo sa mga nagdumala sa 88IB ug labi na sa ilahang Battalion commander.”

(I am grateful that I was invited to solemnized the wedding and has given a chance to showcase the culture and tradition, spiritual aspects and Customary Laws of the tribe in Headquarters 88IB. I’m glad that they are supported by the troops of 88IB especially by the Battalion Commander).

LTC Franklin F. Fabic Commanding Officer of 88IB said “as part of celebrating our 3rd Founding Anniversary, we showcase our love and unity amidst the problem this world is facing. Despite these problems, let this be a moment of simple joy to those in need especially the Former Rebels who did not in their life expect this moment. May the newlywed by given with many blessings as they enter their married life.”
