DEL PILAR, Cabadbaran City - The 29th Infantry “Matatag Fighters” Battalion in partnership with the 2nd District Representative of Agusan Del Norte, Cong. Maria Angelica M. Amante-Matba; Gov. Dale B. Corvera of Agusan del Norte, and other line government agencies through the Enhanced Local Comprehensive Integration Program (E-CLIP), conducted a turnover of the donated lot and groundbreaking ceremony of the housing site for former rebels on October 29, 2020.
In addition to Congresswoman Amante-Matba and Governor Corvera, the event was also graced by representatives of San Roque Metals Incorporated (SRMI) who donated the lot, military officials, and members of the media.
An initial count of 67 Former Rebels is expected to inhabit the lot. Since their surrender, they have been inhabiting the temporary shelter inside the 29th Infantry Battalion’s Camp called New Hope Village.

Former Rebels who surrendered to the 23rd Infantry Battalion and 65th Infantry Battalion have also remained under the protection of the respective Battalions and are included in the list of recipients.
A total of 1.4 hectares for their housing will be given to the former rebels. Aside from the land, a house will be given to each of the former rebels amounting to Php 450,000.00 for each family.
The event was made possible because of the effort of different stakeholders led by Lt. Col Isagani O Criste, Commanding Officer of 29IB.
In a statement, LtCol Criste said that “This is a dream come true, a dream shared with our governor and our congresswoman, that our former rebels will be settled and given a permanent, secured and peaceful housing site. Finally, a place where they can start anew, away from the life that they had where death, hunger, poverty and uncertainty awaited.”
